Increased safety for AC filter capacitors thanks to MESIS® monitoring function
ELECTRONICON presents AC capacitors with Mesis® safety switch for the first time. They are based on the Mesis® protection for low-inductance DC capacitors that had already been launched in 2021: if pressure builds up inside the capacitor as the result of a failure in the dielectric, a switch at the base of the can is actuated, which allows for immediate detection and disconnection of the affected capacitor via an associated monitoring circuit.
In contrast to customary AC capacitors with overpressure protection, the new type of protection works without expansion of the housing. For the first time, protected AC capacitors can now be connected with rigid bars instead of flexible conductors; vibration-related problems at the connections are finally a thing of the past. In addition, failure-caused changes of capacitance can now be recognized immediately, and shifts in the filter circuit be prevented this way.

Approved to new standard UL810B
|

World’s first DC-Capacitor with full approval to UL 810B !
GA85 Mesis® is the world’s first low-inductance DC-capacitor with a genuine protection device. It has now also become the first capacitor worldwide to be approved by Underwriters Laboratories to the new standard UL810B, a standard for DC power capacitors that was launched in 2016. Whilst UL810 allowed just for a “construction only” approval of DC capacitors (evaluating the UL compliance of applied materials and construction features such as electrical clearances and creepage distances), the new standard UL810B now evaluates their behaviour in the event of a fault, similar to the well-known standard DIN EN IEC 61071.
From now on, the capacitors of our E67 series will proudly bear the UL mark with the inscription “protected” which will make their application even more universal and attractive for all users emphasizing safety and technically advanced performance in their products.

At present, we observe an increased (and further growing) market demand and delayed, or limited, supplies of essential raw materials and parts. Erhöhte Sicherheit für AC-Filterkondensatoren dank Mesis®-Monitoring-Funktion
ELECTRONICON stellt nun erstmals auch AC-Kondensatoren mit Mesis®-Sicherung vor. Sie basieren auf der bereits 2021 in den Markt eingeführten Mesis®-Sicherung für niederinduktive DC-Kondensatoren: bei Druckaufbau infolge eines Ausfalls im Dielektrikum wird ein Schalter am Becherboden betätigt, welcher über eine damit verbundene Überwachung die sofortige Erkennung und Abschaltung des betroffenen Kondensators ermöglicht.
Anders als bei bisher üblichen Wechselspannungskondensatoren mit Überdrucksicherung funktioniert die neue Sicherungsart ohne Ausdehnung des Gehäuses. Erstmals können solche Kondensatoren nun mit starren Schienen statt mit flexiblen Leitern angeschlossen werden; vibrationsbedingte Probleme an den Anschlüssen gehören damit endgültig der Vergangenheit an. Darüber hinaus werden nun ausfallbedingte Kapazitätsänderungen unverzüglich erkannt und damit Verschiebungen im Filterkreis verhindert.

Der erste DC-Kondensator der Welt mit voller Zulassung nach UL 810B !
GA85 Mesis® ist der weltweit erste niederinduktive DC-Kondensator mit einer echten Schutzvorrichtung. Als erster Kondensator überhaupt wurde er nun auch von Underwriters Laboratories nach dem neuen Standard UL810B zugelassen, einem Standard für DC-Leistungselektronik-Kondensatoren, der 2016 eingeführt wurde. Während der UL-Standard UL810 für DC-Kondensatoren bisher nur eine „Construction only“-Zulassung ermöglichte (Überprüfung der UL-Konformität verwendeter Materialien und von Konstruktionsmerkmalen, wie z.B. elektrischen Abständen und Kriechstrecken), bewertet die neue Norm UL810B nun auch ihr Verhalten im Fehlerfall, ähnlich dem bereits bekannten IEC-Standard 61071.
Ab sofort tragen die Kondensatoren unserer E67-Serie stolz das Zeichen UL und die Aufschrift „protected“, welches ihren Einsatz noch universeller und attraktiver für all jene Anwender machen wird, die bei ihren Produkten Wert auf Sicherheit und überragende technische Performance legen.
